Fetal Development
Day 1: All the genetic
information including sex, hair and eye color, etc, is already determined.
Days 5-9: The embryo implants in the uterus and begins to
draw nourishment.
Day 20: The beginnings of
the brain, spinal cord and nervous system are already established.
Day 21: The heart begins to beat.
Day 28:
Backbone, muscles, arms, legs, eyes, ears forming.
Day 35:
Five fingers can be seen.
Day 40:
Brain waves can be detected and recorded.

 
Seven weeks Eight Weeks
Eleven Weeks
Week 7:
Jaw and teeth buds form, begins to suck thumb.
Week 8:
Almost everything is now present that will be found in a fully
developed adult.
Week 11:
Has fingernails, spontaneous breathing movements, all body systems working.
Week 12: Weighs one ounce.

  
Twelve Weeks Sixteen Weeks Twenty Weeks
Week 16: Grasps with hands,
swims, kicks, turns, somersaults.
Week 18: Vocal cords work - can
cry.
Week 20: Has hair on head, weighs
one pound, 12 inches long.
Week 24: 56% of babies survive
premature birth.
Week 25: 79% of babies survive
premature birth.
